John was born on 10 May 1893 in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois, the son of Charles Dyer Rich and Mabel B Kellogg.

He died on 4 Oct 1974 in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

He had two marriages/partners. His first wife was Marguerite Theobald Lloyd, who he married in ABT 1919 in Cook County, Illinois. Their three known children were Portia Kellogg (1920-2015), John Eager (1922-2014) and Marguerite Lloyd (1925-2004).

His second wife was Phyllis Fleck, who he married on 3 AUG 1928 in Ossining, Westchester, New York . Their two known children were Phyllis Ann (c1930-2017) and Sarah Fleck (1934-2008).
