He had two marriages/partners. His first wife was Nancy Smith Starr, who he married on 12 MAY 1840 in Sherbourn, Chenango, New York. Their three known children were George Combe (1841-1844), John (1844-1844) and Sarah (1847-1847).
His second wife was Harriet Bencham Scott, who he married on 3 JUN 1850 in Brookfield, Madison Cty, New York. Their six known children were Mary Stuart (1852-1942), Kate Starr (1854-1925), Gertrude Elizabeth (1859-1927), Harriett Sarah (1860-1942), Alice DeWolf (c1862-1900) and Mabel B (1869-1956).
