Gabriel was born in 1771 in Pittsylvania County, Virginia, the son of Gabriel Shelton and Elizabeth Shepherd.
He died in 1863 in Halifax County, Virginia.
He had two marriages/partners. His first wife was Rachel Shepard, who he married on 24 SEP 1799 in Pittsylvania County, Virginia. Their two known children were John S. (1803-?) and Moses Hurt (1805-1875).
His second wife was Rebecca Johnson, who he married on 27 NOV 1826 in Pittsylvania County, Virginia. They had no known children.

appears to me to be two moses hurt shelton. son of Charles Coleman Shelton lived Lawrence County Missouri 1804-1869 and was married to Nancy Clark and had at least 8 children.
while the son of Gabriel J and Rachel married Hannah Harrison and stayed in Virginia 1805 -1875, six children, only minimum research as of 13 May 2020
