He died in 1803 in Pittsylvania County, Virginia.

He had two marriages/partners. His first wife was Elizabeth Shepherd, who he married on 24 MAR 1762 in Amelia County, Virginia. Their eleven known children were Lemuel (c1763-1848), Catherine (c1764-?), Abraham (c1765-1804), Elizabeth (1770-1850), Gabriel Jr (1779-1863), Jane (c1781-?), Lettice (c1782-?), Watt (1765-1820), Gregory (c1772-?), Beverley (c1783-?) and Reddick (c1783-?).

His second wife was Mary Buford, who he married on 29 JUN 1794 in Pittsylvania County, Virginia. They had no known children.
