Thompson was born in 1812 in Louisiana, the son of Abraham Jr Bird and Mary Bowie.

He died after 1875. The place is not known.

His wife was Arthemise Esnard, who he married in 1836 in West Baton Rouge Parish, Louisiana. Their two known children were Abraham John (1837-1861) and William Thompson (1847-?).
