Personal and Family Information

Phineas was born on 12 Nov 1786 in North Carolina, the son of James Holmes and Mary Filena Nail.

He died in 1860 in Benton County, Arkansas .

His wife was Rachel Stewert, who he married in ABT 1805. The place has not been found. Their twelve known children were James (1807-1884), Mary (1809-1848), Sarah (1810-1859), Elizabeth (1814-1848), Cynthia (1815-1884), John Melton (1818-1884), Harvey (1820-1850), Henderson Phineas (1821-1893), Calvin Hall (1825-1898), William M (1830-1905), Rachel Sophie (1831-1855) and Emily (1823-1823).

Phineas Holmes had a mill on Osage Creek.. he settled there 1837 per Kathryn Lang Dec 2004.

Note 2

1840 Census images on Ancestry.com has 6 images for pages 17 to 19 of Osage Township, Benton County, Arkansas that are incorrectly indexed as Bailey Township.

In the left margin, vertical pages 17 and 18 and is written “Benton County, Osage Township”. same place on page 19 isn’t clear but probably also “Osage”
