Notes

Note 1

JEFFERSON, Cynthia Adaline WOODS - Died, January 27, 1914 at her home in Bentonville, Ark., Mrs. J.J. Jefferson, in the 74th year of her age.

Cynthia Adaline Woods was born in Benton county, Ark. Aug 20th, 1840. She was the daughter of Judge Dysart and Sara Woods of precious memory. July 15th, 1866 she was married to John J. Jefferson. To them were born eight children - two sons and six daughters. She professed faith in the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and was received by the writer into the Woods C.P. Church Nov. 24th, 1889. Her christian life and influence was more of a silent nature though none the less powerful for good. Much afflicted for many years she was not permitted to attend regularly the means of grace at the sanctuary; but her daily christian life and example, her cheerful and patient nature and disposition, her kind and persuasive counsel and admonition, exerted a salutary influence upon the hearts and lives of the loved ones at home, her neighbors and acquaintances.

She is survived by three daughters - Mrs. Dwight Dickson, Mrs. Perry Arthur, Mrs. E. Carnahan and youngest son - John Jefferson. Her husband, three daughters and a son preceded her to the great beyond. Two sisters, Mrs. Woolsey and Mrs. Lee - and a brother - D.H. Woods - and five grandchildren, also survive her. The funeral services, held at the residence by Rev. McKeen and the writer, were attended by a large congregation, thus manifesting sincere condolence for the sorrowing family and friends. The remains were buried at the Mt. Eden Cemetery beside those of the beloved husband and children gone before. Thus another old landmark of this community has passed away, leaving a feeling of loneliness and sadness with the older members of the generation with which she lived and labored. May the Holy Spirit comfort the wounded and sorrowing hearts of the loved ones left behind.

P. Carnahan. [Benton County Democrat -

Bentonville, Benton County, Arkansas - February 5, 1914]

JEFFERSON, Mrs. John J. - Mrs. John J. Jefferson died at her home on North Main Street, Bentonville, Arkansas on Tuesday, January 27, 1914 at 5:40 o'clock p.m., aged 73 years, five months and seven days.

In the passing away of this good woman there is removed from our midst gentle, kind and loving to everyone with whom she came in contact, in consequence of which she was highly esteemed by all who knew her. Being possessed of a happy, congenial disposition, she diffused sunshine and happiness under any and all circumstances. She always had a word of good cheer for everyone and no matter how discouraging and disappointing things seemed to be she had the happy faculty of always looking smilingly on the bright side of the situation. I have known her for almost half a century yet I have never seen or even heard of her in any other mood than herein described. Troubles she has had, and many grievous ones, yet she came triumphantly and smilingly through them all - still the same kind, loving, motherly soul. She was born and reared here and in common with the sturdy pioneers who settled this county and caused the wilderness to "blossom as the rose," she endured many privations and hardships during the Civil War when this part of the country was overrun with thieves and murderers and the lives and property of no one were safe. Having endured these dangers and privations she was the better enabled to appreciate the manifold blessings which she enjoyed later in life, surrounded by a family of most devoted children who idolized her. She was "good," in the fullest and broadest meaning of word.

A Friend. [Benton County Democrat - Bentonville, Benton County, Arkansas - January 29, 1914]

Note 2

findagrave has note that son John Riley Woods: Great grandson of Captain Samuel Woods, a Revolutionary War hero.

note in Bentonville there is Dysart Woods Lane, off Tiger and NE J

1st wife Sarah died 1859 and is mother of Levi O…In his Will, Dysart refers to “his mother Elizabeth P Woods” his second wife, widow of George H Jefferson. Dysart’s daughter Cynthia Adaline Woods married John J Jefferson, son of Elizabeth P and George H Jefferson. John J and Cynthia named one son Dysart W Jefferson and another John Riley for Dysart and Sarah’s first son.

Hence the 8 children of Cynthia and John Jefferson have 3 relationships with Dysart Woods:

1 Grandfather

2 Step Grandfather

3 Second Cousin, 2 times removed via John Holmes and Jennet Wilson.
