Notes

Note 1

niece, raised and adopted by Gravenmiers

Note 2

Laura Franks probably child of John H Franks and Mary Fulkerson, 1910 census needed to confirm. She probably died before 1930 census, as daughter Dorothy Ann Phillips is with aunt Edith Gravenmier in both 1930 and 1940 census.

Best evidence of the connection is 1930 census states she is niece of Walter and Edith Gravenmier.

There is another young girl with grandfather John Franks and two single daughters in 1930 census, one possibility is she is a second daughter of Laura Franks and Clarence Phillips--purely a guess, nothing to support this idea.

My understanding has always been that Dorothy was adopted and raised by Gravenmier, and was a sister to Mary Ann, Melvin and Pauline.

Laura not named in 1960 obit of Edith Gravenmire, also an indication that she died earlier.

search of cemetery indexes in Woodruff and White Counties have not found Phillips or Franks of this family.
