He died about 1865 in Decatur, Alabama.

Fletcher Simmons served in the Confederate Army during the Civil War and made it through the war safely. On the day that he returned to his home in Decatur, Alabama, an irate tenant on his plantation shot him and he died from that gunshot wound. He left a widow and two children.
