Joseph was born in 1831 in Georgia, the son of Holman Freeman Simmons and Sarah Eliza Hawkins Burns.
He died on 2 Sep 1893 in St Francis County, Arkansas.
His wife was Laurette McDermott, who he married in ABT 1866 in maybe Alabama. Their four known children were Theodora (1867-<1900), Charles Edward (1869-1953), Nora Kathleen (1876-1964) and Fred Stuckey (1884-1953).

1860 Census Jackson Cty Ark, Cashe Twp has brother HC Simmons and sister Mary Mallory very nearby. In 1870, Brother Felix and his wife Mary Theodora Saxon are also nearby. Mother Eliza Simmons, age 72 is with Mary Mallory.
In 1880 Dr Joseph has wife Lauretta who is 20 years younger and oldest child now 13 is named for sister in law Theodora.
All sources have shown Joseph Bibb Simmions to be a physician. She is widow with 3 living of 4 children in 1900 census St Francis County, Ark.
Brothers Holman Felix and Henry Clay and sister Susan Burns Simmons all three married Saxons.
