John was born in 1748 in Richmond County, Virginia, the son of Richard 3 Flynt and Ann Perry.

He died in 1821 in Stokes County, North Carolina.

His wife was Catherine Perry. They were married, but the date and place have not been found. Their nine known children were Perry (c1776-1851), Meredith (c1782-1821), Fanny (c1785-?), Sally (c1785-<1834), Richard (1786-1834), Katherine (c1788-?), Nancy (c1792-?), Susan (c1798-?) and Lucinda (c1802-1858).

Bought land on Lynn Creek, Giles County Tennessee, on Giles County 1812 Tax List. The names of his children have not been found. He had children as his father John Flynt stated in his will of 1821, "I give to my grandchildren ... airs of my son Meredith Flynt one hundred dollars forever. Meredith died in Giles County in 1814.
