Personal and Family Information

Rezin was born on 8 SEP 1793 in Elliott Springs, Tennessee, the son of Rezin Bowie and Elve Ap-Catesby Jones.

He died on 17 JAN 1841 in New Orleans, Louisiana.

His wife was Margaret Frances Neville, who he married on 15 SEP 1814 in Opelousas Parish, La. Their six known children were John (1815-1816), Matilda Eleanor (1816-1892), Jim Rezin (1817-c1819), Seyborne (c1818-c1821), Elve Anna (1820-1873) and Martha Andremella (1831-1853).

BE CAREFUL HERE!

"The Bowies and their Kindred" only very loosely ties this James back to the Maryland Bowies. Page 258 and 259 statements such as "In the absence of documentary evidence, family tradition must be accepte.." and "If such was the case" and "It is not know where...but seems to be".

It is a long article in WW Bowie book and often cited as full proof tieing Louisana Family to Maryland Family.

"The Rezin Bowie Family of Louisiana" by Virginia Lobdell Jennings is a much more scholarily research of this Jame Bowie and his decendents. Wills and land records are used to better document the names, familys, places and dates. At the same time comparasions are made with the claims in WW Bowie book.
