WOODS, George H. - George H. Woods, former Sulphur Springs merchant, who has lived at Lynn Haven, Fla., died late Saturday night near Wiggins, Miss. from injuries received in a fall from a truck he was riding. Mr. Woods was on his way home from a visit with his brothers, S.D. Woods of Sulphur Springs and Willie and Elbert Woods at Hiwasse. He was 49 years of age. The body was returned here for burial. Funeral services and burial were held at Mt. Pleasant west of Hiwasse yesterday afternoon. Rev. J.J. Waits of Sulphur Springs conducted the services. Mr. Woods comes from a family of Benton County pioneers, his grandfather, Samuel Woods, was one of the earliest settlers in this community. There were 2 Samuel Woods and to distinguish them apart his grandfather was known as "East Sammy" Woods, as he lived east of Bentonville. The other Samuel Woods lived west of town and was known as "West Sammy" Woods. Mr. Woods was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Aze Woods and was born on the Woods homestead on Pea Ridge. When eh was about 6 years old the family moved to a place 2 miles east of Hiwasse where he grew to manhood. For a number of years he conducted a hardware store in Sulphur Springs, later moving to Lynn Haven, Fla. which had since been his home. Mr. Woods is survived by 3 brothers,S.D. Woods of Sulphur Springs, also Willie and Elbert Woods of Hiwasse; also by three sisters, Mrs. America Bates and Mrs House Cowgur of Hiwasse, and Mrs. Pearl Lambert of Wichita, Kansas. George H. Woods of Lynn Haven, Florida, a former resident of Benton county, suffered injuries in an automobile accident at 3 p.m. Sunday near Wiggins, Mississippi which resulted in his death at 11:20 p.m. Sunday, according to a message received here. The body arrived here Wednesday and funeral services were held at Mount Pleasant cemetery near Hiwasse at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday with the Rev. J.W. Waits, pastor of the Sulphur Springs Methodist church, officiating. Burial arrangements will be in charge of Kerr-Callison Undertaking company of Bentonville. Mr. Woods recently visited relatives here and at Hiwasse and Sulphur Springs and was enroute home wen the accident occurred. Details of the accident were not learned although it was said his death was caused by a fractured skull. Mr. Woods is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Armina Bates of Rogers, Mrs. Letha Cowgur, Hiwasse and Mrs. Pearl Lambeth, Wichita,Kansas and three brothers, S.D. Woods, Sulphur Springs and Elbert and Will Woods of Hiwasse.
