He had two marriages/partners. His first wife was Permelia Bentley, who he married on 24 AUG 1845 in Lorain County, Ohio. Their five known children were Edgar H. (1847-1916), Mary (1850-1938), Carrie (1856-1860), George Hiram (1863-1946) and Hattie (1858-1929).

His second wife was Lucinda Smith, who he married on 4 SEP 1867 in Ohio. Their two known children were Fannie M. (1874-1897) and Charlies H (1872-1928).
