Doris Marie (Haynes) Gordon, 91, of Augusta, went to be with the Lord on Friday, January 24, 2020. She was born June 15, 1928 in Smithdale, Arkansas a daughter of the late Lucian Franklin Haynes and Elizabeth Ilena (Stroup) Haynes. She had deep roots in the Augusta community where her father owned and operated his blacksmith shop for many years.

Doris was a long time member of the Augusta First Baptist Church where she was very active with church functions, including the choir. She was a talented singer and was blessed with a beautiful soprano voice. Music was a very important part of her family and she passed that love on to her sons who are also talented musicians. She also made sure that they had all the latest and coolest music albums throughout their childhood. Mrs. Gordon taught her sons how to be gentlemen. She imparted upon them the importance of opening the door for a lady and which side of the sidewalk to walk on as well as how to treat others with respect and kindness. She also loved nature and enjoyed being outdoors as well as keeping up with family and many friends through social media.

She is survived by her 2 sons, Carl E. “Gene” Cooper and John Cooper and 5 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William “Bill” Gordon and her siblings, Gracie Irene Haynes, Lloyd James Haynes, Millie Christine Haynes, Mable Haynes, Ida Lucille Haynes and Annie Lou Haynes.

Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, January 25, 2020 at 3:00 p.m. at the Powell Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Jason Whitmire, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow in the Augusta Memorial Park

Christine Haynes Greene of Lubbock, formerly of Midland, passed away on Wednesday, September 7, 2011 at the age of 98. She was born April 21, 1913 in Hickory Flat, MS to Lucian and Elizabeth (Stroup) Haynes. Christine married Raymond Greene February 12, 1944. She worked as a registered nurse. Christine was a member of the First Baptist Church of Midland for over 50 years. After moving to Lubbock, she placed membership at Second Baptist Church.

Her memory will be cherished by two daughters, Mary Ann Keierleber and husband John of Parker, SD and Martha Jane Waller and husband Mike of Lubbock; sister, Doris Gordon of Augusta, AR; five grandchildren; and, nine great-grandchildren.

Christine was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Raymond; and a daughter, Paula Greene.

Graveside services are scheduled for 12:00 noon Saturday, September 10, 2011 at Resthaven Memorial Park in Midland.
