Lawson was born in 1811 in Rutherford County, Tennessee, the son of Joseph Dickson and Eleanor N. Rankin.
He died in 1849 in Shelby County, Illinois.
His wife was Jane Elliot Curry, who he married on 24 OCT 1839 in Shelby County, Illinois. Their only known child was Isaac F. (1842-1891).
