Allen was born in 1807 in Bedford, Tennessee, the son of David McCurdy and Elizabeth Appleby.
He died in BET Mar 1837 AND Sep 1837 in Arkansas.
He had two marriages/partners. His first wife was Elizabeth Herrin, who he married on 9 FEB 1828 in Williamson County, Tennessee. Their four known children were Susan Elizabeth (1829-1887), Samuel (1831-1831), James Donnel (1831-1875) and David Appleby (1834-1894).
His second wife was Sarah Sublett Dickson, who he married in ABT 1835. The place has not been found. Their only known child was Robert Dickson (1836-1908).
