Note 1
This is a round memorial plate situated directly behind the 6 foot tall DICKSON monument. It was placed there by a Pennsylvania Dutch society according to the present owner of the Walnut Grove property. This memorial has the name Col. Wm Dickson but the date of Margaret McDowell Dickson's death not Col Dickson's. According to Frances Cunningham Harper (who researched the history of the Dickson plantation called Walnut Grove) entries in the Dickson family bible state, "William Dickson was born Oct. 3rd, 1775" and "... died Aug 22nd, at 2:00 o'clock, P.M., 1855." It also states that "Peggy McDowell was born Dec. 31st 1783" and that she, Margaret McDowell Dickson died Sept. 28th, 1854, aged 70 years, nine months, and 28 days." This memorial plate placed many years after Col. Wm Dickson's death is incorrect.
