He died on 8 MAR 1882 in Benton County, Arkansas.

He had two marriages/partners. His first wife was Sarah Holmes, who he married in 1827 in Bedford County, Tennessee. Their nine known children were John Riley (1828-1900), Nancy R (1830-1914), Phineas H (1833-1860), Cynthia Adaline (1840-1914), Cephas W (1842-1875), David Hervey (1844-1923), Francis D (1846-1873), Levi Oliver (1848-1912) and Sarah M. (1853-1912).

His second wife was Elizabeth Woods, who he married in ABT 1860. The place has not been found. They had no known children.
