Canoe Instructor Certification Exam on Nantahala River

This quicktime video is about 15 minutes long and may be difficult to see using slower internet connections. Shown is a group from the Arkansas Canoe Club doing a part of ACA Instructor Certification Exam for Whitewater Canoe in both tandem and solo canoes. Location is the Nantahala River in western North Carolina near Bryson City in April 2010.

The Nantahala Falls is a standard rated rapid for Class III whitewater at this flow. Billboard is the first eddy of the rapid which is some 200 yards long, Truckstop is a large eddy on river left near the bottom of the rapid.

Most of the paddlers are either ACA Instructors or Instructor Canditates, however included in this group is Walter Felton, an Advanced Whitewater Instructor, who in this event was completing requirements for Canoe Instructor Trainer and Sam Fowlkes who is Canoe Instructor Trainer Educator.

Even though everyone shown felt his own run could have been better, this video is a good representation of the paddle skills that are expected of ACA instructors.
