Betty Jeane Atkinson, 93, of Parkersburg died March 10, 2019 at Wyngate Assisted Living. She was born on April 30, 1925 in Vienna, WV and was the daughter of the late William Edward and Minnie Heiney Shumway.

She graduated from PHS January 21, 1943 and married Robert A. Atkinson on January 13, 1946. After traveling for 18 years with her husband Robert, who was an officer in the United States Coast Guard, Betty and Bob came back to Parkersburg in 1963 to begin a different life.

Betty was a long time member of the fellowship at Liberty Street Church of God and former member of Christ United Methodist Church. At both churches she was instrumental in children's and youth ministries.

She is survived by one son; David A. (Pamela) Atkinson of Circleville, OH; one daughter, Kimberly Ellen Atkinson of Ravenswood; four grandchildren, Heather K. Atkinson, Justin A. Atkinson, Amy E. (Tim) Querrey, Charles T. (Joyce) Batten; great grandchildren, Tia J. Querrey, Paige Batten, Madison Batten; great-great grandchildren, Hayden and Wyatt Douglas.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death her husband Robert A. Atkinson; two brothers, Joseph and Charles Shumway and sister-in-law Sarah Knotts Shumway.

Funeral services will be Tuesday 3:00 pm, March 12th, 2019 at the Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg with Pastor Brian Harrell.

Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery North. Visitation will be held Monday 6:00 - 8:00 pm and Tuesday 2:00 - 3:00 pm at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg,
