PINKNEY POWELL was born August 1, 1829. His parents were Isaac and
Tebithie (Lacey) Powell, both natives of North Carolina. The father came
to this county sixty-four years ago. He is still living at the advanced
age of eighty-eight years. The mother died in 1864, at the age of about
seventy years. These parents were for many years members of the Mount
Tabor Baptist Church. Our subject began for himself at the age of twenty
years. He knows exactly how every dollar of his wealth came, as he has
earned it by hard labor and good management. He now owns 450 acres of
land besides live stock. He has been very successful in business. He
was married in 1849 to Miss Lettie Shelton of this county. Twelve children
have blessed this union, of whom the following are living: Julia A., Betsey
J., Melinda M., Isaac S., Virginia E., Mary O., John H., Lorenza J. William
M., Pinkney A. The parents and five of the children are members of the
Baptist Church. Mr. Powell is well respected in this county. He has a
comfortable home and happy surroundings. Betsey J. is the wife of John
Powell. They have five children. Julia A. is the wife of James Williams.
They have three children. Melinda M. is the wife of George Henderson.
They have four children. Isaac S. married Mary J. Cowan, and is the
father of three children. Mary O. is the wife of Fatal Daniel. John H.
married Emiline Cowan. They have four children.
