Her second husband was Richard Kirkland, who she married on 14 APR 1819 in Lafourche Parish, La. They had no known children.

Mrs. America A. Bowie.

On the 18th inst., Mrs. America A. Bowie, departed this life after reaching the ripe old age of 93 years. Deceased was the eldest daughter of Wm. Watkins, one of the earliest settlers of Lafourche. She was a lady of extra mental abilities and sterling qualities and was loved, honored and respeced by all who knew her. Her late husband, John Bowie, was the youngest of four brothers. His eldest brother, Reason Bowie, was quite an historical character of large landed estate. His brother, James Bowie, the inventer of the "bowie knife, " fell at Alamo with Crocket. The subject of this sketch was well known to a number of the old residents of Louisiana, Mississippi and California, and not withstanding her advanced age her demise will be mourned by hosts of friends. 

The venearable lady lived on the Grand Caillon in Terrebonne for many years. Her remains were brought to Houma and placed away to rest in Magnolia cemetery.
