Sedgewell House

All seems typical in the 1968 Razorback, but are a lot more stories to tell of the Fall Semester 1967 and Spring Semester 1968.

For instance, what was that "Campaign Against Fire" in the headline about?

Wes Kemp is set to retire as President and CEO of ABF at the end of 2011. However in 1968, Wes was a senior Business major at the universtiy and was in his third year in Sedgewell House. In his home town Danville, he had served on the volunteer Fire Department for several years. When smoke started coming out a trash chute one evening, Wes did as he was trained, grabbed a fire hose from the wall stand at end of the hall and told someone to stay there and prepare to turn the water on when he reached the trash chute. Wes ran down the hall, pulling fire hose from the stand as he ran to the fire. Problem was the hose wasn't long enough and when he ran out of hose, Wes was jerked flat on his backside. I don't recall how the fire in trash chute was extinguished, but this headline in the 68 Razorback brings a picture in my mind of Wes hitting the floor.
