JEFFERSON, Louisa Susan BATES - Residents of Bentonville were greatly shocked Wednesday afternoon to learn of the death of Mrs. George H. Jefferson at the family home. While she had been somewhat of an invalid for some time she had been in fairly good health until Monday when she was taken ill. Mrs. Jefferson was about seventy years of age and was born in Dade county, Mo. and came to Bentonville in childhood. She was married in Cassville, Mo. to George H. Jefferson in 1875. She is survived by her husband and seven children: Wayman of this city; George and Jack of Kansas; Mrs. Sue Crick of Houston, Texas; Walter, Nola and Earl of Bentonville. She also leaves three brothers, A.J. Bates of this city, Marion and George Bates of Oklahoma and a sister, Mrs. M.N. Woods of Edgar, Montana. Funeral services will be held Friday foremoon at ten o'clock. The community extends their sympathy to the bereaved family.[Benton County Record - Bentonville, Benton County, Arkansas - July 1, 1921]

Mrs. Louisa Bates Jefferson, wife of George H. Jefferson, died at the family residence today about 2:30 o'clock. She had been in poor health for the past year. Mrs. Jefferson was about sixty years of age and came to Bentonville with her parents from Texas about fifty years ago and married George Jefferson, the well known grocer. Besides her husband she leaves five sons and two daughters to mourn her loss. Wayman and Walter, two of the sons, make their home in Bentonville. George H. Jefferson, Jr. lives in Kansas City, Mo., Earl and Jack are in business in Kansas. One daughter Mrs. Susan Crick, lives in Houston, Tex. and Miss Nola Jefferson is at home.

She also leaves a sister, Mrs. L.O. Woods of Montana and three brothers, Jack Bates of Bentonville, F.M. Bates of Muskogee, Okla. and G.M. Bates.

The funeral services of Mrs. Louisa Susan Jefferson, who died at her home in Bentonville on Wednesday, June 29, were held Friday morning at the family residence. There was a large attendance. Interment took place at the City cemetery immediately after the services. The services were conducted by Rev. G. Lyle Smith assisted by Rev. H.C. Hoy. Mrs. Jefferson was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian church, having joined that church immediately after her marriage to George Jefferson, Dec. 12,1875 at Cassville, Mo. after which they moved to Bentonville where she had a host of friends.
